Heathcote
Heathcote defines the eastern limits of Victoria's Central Goldfields.
Originally a peaceful grazing district, the Goldrush boom of 1851 took the township's population to a heady 35,000 almost overnight.
Ten years saw out the boom-town days and slowly but surely Heathcote returned to its origin of quiet country living. Today, the numbers of the township and surrounds are around 3,500 and we prefer to think of the current status as quality not quantity.
Many of today's visitors might well have quality shiraz on their minds when planning to visit. The Cambrian soils produce 'seriously' good wine.
Other holiday pursuits include:
- Bushwalking in adjacent forests
- Golf on a year round 18 hole course with lawn greens
- Tennis
- Bowls
- Cycling
Heathcote roads are forgivingly flattish just perfect for investigating on two wheels.
